All of these characters will soon find themselves battling an American Indian’s spirit that possesses people and turns them into murderous zombie-like lunatics during a raging snowstorm. Rockwell is also home to a local drinking establishment owned by a man named Rudy, who is a good man, if not a little on the weak side. And there is Colin, a mean son of a bitch who hates Jake. There is an overweight, overworked, and overly-kind sheriff in town who manages to keep the peace despite being the only lawman in town.

Rockwell is also home to a large but kind-hearted American Indian named Jake who loves a local waitress named Terry, who loves him back. Then there’s Tom, another old guy who’s a racist and survivalist and not afraid to let anyone know how he feels about things. Ramp knows quite a bit about the town but he keeps a lot of the darker side of it to himself. There’s Ramp, an old fella who sit on his porch drinking beer and chatting up Nick. In The Dead of Winter we find Nick, Rebecca, and their little daughter Emily moving to the town of Rockwell, a quaint, small town with its share of odd characters. Not only are the bones of the plot overly familiar, but the characters in The Dead of Winter are so generic they seem to be out of central casting for a SciFi Channel movie of the week.īut, all of this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a chance on The Dead of Winter – I did and I was glad for it. I hate to start off a review with a negative comment, but in the case of The Dead of Winter, it becomes obvious rather quickly that in terms of plot, the story-line offers nothing new.
